Belcrum History
Belcrum is a modernizing neighborhood situated in the city Breda. Belcrum is located above the central station and is 53 ha with a population of 3,950. Belcrum was originally a polder, has an industrial terrain named “de Krogten” which was built and established in 1930. Belcrum is primarily made up of infrastructure and buildings that are structurally low to the ground. The most important street in Belcrum is and will always be Speelhuislaan because it is the most popular street with many stores and recreational activities. Belcrum has a war monument ‘Heilig Hartbeeld’ which translates to “Holy Heart statue” from 1952. The name Belcrum originates from the Belcrumberg (Belcrumhill) and Belcrumbosch (Belcrumwoods) that was located there, and began to build the neighborhood in the Frankish period in 800AD. Belcrum is the oldest part of northern Breda. Since the 1930’s the neighbourhood has really expanded into a prosperous place of Breda, the district is bordering to the city centre. Belcrum has one elementary school and has a small beach. Belcrum is also expanding at the dockyard as of now.
